Yorkshire Wildlife Park announces £50M expansion plans

Yorkshire Wildlife Park has recently acquired 150 acres of land adjacent to its current site in Branton, to make space for their £50 million expansion plans.

If the plans are approved, Yorkshire Wildlife Park will continue its conservation work by adding new reserves to the park. This will introduce new animals to the site and will increase the park’s workforce to 600 people, which will be double the current amount.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park’s CEO, John Minion, said: "Since opening we have also been able to contribute hugely to protecting endangered species such as Amur tigers and leopards and African painted dogs, and our visitors share our passion to cherish wildlife and ensure its survival.”

"This expansion will allow us to take our conservation work to another level."

Currently, the park is home to over 400 animals. Having opened back in 2009, the popular zoo attracted around 761,000 people last year and it expects to grow further once the expansion takes place.

To be able to cater to the increased number of visitors, part of the project involves the construction of a hotel on site in order to encourage overnight stays.

Welcome to Yorkshire’s chief executive, Gary Verity, said: "This is a very exciting development for the team at Yorkshire Wildlife Park who have done a fantastic job developing the attraction since it opened."
