Kingfisher Resorts unveil plans for £25M development at Carbis Bay
Last month Kingfisher Resorts presented their ambitious plans of transforming the former Una Resort campsite at Carbis Bay into a modern holiday resort at a public consultation forum hosted by Cornwall Council. Plans for the £25 million development include the construction of 96 holiday villas, an apart-hotel, and a variety of leisure facilities to compliment guests’ stays.
The site was already granted planning permission for 123 holiday homes back in 2010, with the former owner only getting as far as building 29 of them. Kingfisher Resorts hopes to continue those plans by investing £25 million into the expansion development, having already started with a £200k refurbishment of the resort’s restaurant.
The proposals for the site were presented at the Pre-application Community Engagement (PACE) Forum, which is a new initiative designed by councils to involve the councillors and communities affected by these developments from the very beginning. Taking part in this process can help applicants when drafting their application by pre-empting any issues that could develop along the way.
Kingfisher Resorts’ Commercial Director, Damian Sargent, said: “This was a great way for us to engage directly with the local community and we’re grateful to the Council for facilitating their first ever PACE event and to everyone who turned out on a wet and windy evening.”
“There were a number of issues raised by local people. Access to the site is one of the biggest concerns, and there were comments about the sewage network, the height of some of the draft proposals and any impact on neighbouring properties.”
“Our job now is to take all those comments away and look at how we can address those concerns and provide people with more information. We are planning a follow-up event in the first half of September before we make any formal planning application, and the Council would then also invite comments from the community before making any decision.”
